Pool volume calculator
Gallons from the shape and the depths, plus the salt, chlorine and pump flow that follow from them.

How it works
average depth = (shallow + deep) / 2 rectangle: length x width x average depth x 7.48 round: diameter x diameter x 0.785 x average depth x 7.48 oval: length x width x 0.785 x average depth x 7.48 kidney: (wide end + narrow end) x length x 0.45 x average depth x 7.48 freeform: length x width x 0.85 x average depth x 7.48
There are 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot. The average depth is right for a floor that slopes evenly from the shallow end to the deep end. A pool with a long flat shallow section and a short steep hopper holds less than this says, and a sport pool with a flat deep floor holds more. The shape factors are standard trade approximations; a traced outline in PoolTools uses the real shape and depth profile.
The salt figure is for a new salt system starting from fresh water at 3,200 ppm, the middle of most chlorine generators' range; check your cell's manual. Liquid chlorine is the common 12.5% strength. Pump flow is for one full turnover in 8 hours.
Typical pool sizes

| Medium rectangle | 16 x 32 ft | 3.5 to 6 ft | 18,200 gal |
| Large rectangle | 20 x 40 ft | 3.5 to 8 ft | 34,400 gal |
| Round above-ground | 24 ft round | 4 ft | 13,500 gal |

Design the pool on the real yard
PoolTools traces the yard from satellite or a photo, draws the pool and its depth profile, and works out the gallons, the dig, the equipment and the doses from the real shape.
